Helal Ahmed

Helal is regularly instructed in private and public law matters and is known for his sensitive approach to representing parents, children, and local authorities. Helal is often called upon to represent children directly in the more complicated matters where they separate from their guardians in care proceedings.
He is a powerful advocate, regularly handling complex cases involving serious injuries, non-accidental injuries (NAI), sexual abuse, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and international elements.
His experience in immigration law and proficiency in multiple languages gives him a distinct advantage in cases entailing complicated immigration and cultural issues. Helal’s unique skills make him a formidable force in the courtroom, ensuring that each client receives the best possible representation in challenging circumstances.
Helal speaks Bangla and Urdu and can understand other Southeast Asian dialects/languages.
Public Law Children
Helal is regularly instructed in complex, public law cases. Recent instructions include allegations of serious child sexual abuse, extensive child sexual exploitation networks, fabricated and induced illness, catastrophic brain injury, fractures, burns, failure to thrive and death.
Private Law Children
Helal’s expertise covers all aspects of private law, including removal from the jurisdiction, internal relocation, findings of fact in relation to sexual abuse, physical and emotional abuse. Helal’s experience in private family law matters is extensive. He has achieved success during difficult and protracted cases and has a particularly high success rate, as well as the ability to consider imaginative solutions for comprises.

- Leading Erin Cook in a case listed for 3 weeks involving serious County Lines issues and exploitation.

2022/2023
- Represented parent in case where local authority forced to withdraw care proceedings following challenge to the threshold and allegations of FGM
- Lead Counsel in a 3-week case where a child was in the pool for an injury.
2021/2022
- Led by Jaqueline Thomas KC in a case where parents faced serious allegations of physical harm and injuries.
- Being led in by Kate Hughes KC, a case where a party faced allegations of sexual abuse case for 4 weeks, following which no findings were made.
2020/2021
- Re C 2022 Representing a child directly in a case involving Silk and all the other parties and allegations of sexual abuse against all parties.
- Representing a party facing serious allegations of sexual abuse in a case which lasted more than 8 weeks, where others had leading and Junior Counsel, with 6 parties.
2019/2020
Leading local authority Counsel in a case involving two local authorities and 4 parties, seeking findings of serious injury to a non-mobile child against parents

Since 2015 Helal has annually attended the University of Hull to deliver a workshop, on Court Skill’s and Practice alongside an experienced Guardian to the 3rd year BA and MA Social Work Students, highlighting the importance of ‘Evidence based social work practice’
