Philippa Pudney

Called: 2019

Philippa completed a Public and Private Family Law pupillage within Chambers in September 2020, having been under the supervision of Mark Watterson. Philippa accepts instructions in all areas of Children Law and Court of Protection work, in particular issues surrounding mental capacity and deprivation of liberty.

Philippa has a fast-developing practice with experience in child-protection work concerning issues of drugs misuse, neglect, non-accidental injury and physical and sexual abuse. She is often instructed in cases requiring detailed and complex psychological assessment and has represented clients with mental health or learning difficulties. Philippa has experience in inter-jurisdictional Family Law cases involving simultaneous proceedings and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

Philippa’s approachability and problem-solving attitude are key attributes to navigate cases with complex issues and vulnerable clients.

Philippa provides seminars to local solicitors and social workers on law and practice, particularly in the time of increased remote working.

Philippa is a member of the North Eastern Circuit’s Diversity Outreach programme and works alongside members of Chambers to promote diversity at the Bar.

Philippa has a history in competitive powerlifting, now focussing on bodybuilding training.
Having been brought up for much of her life in Murcia (Spain), Philippa is an avid traveller across Spanish-speaking regions. This upbringing lent itself to SCUBA diving across some of Spain’s impressive wreck dives.
Alongside this, Philippa spends any free time watching Formula 1 (not Hamilton!) and Leeds Rhinos.
