Leigh Royall

Senior Clerk

Leigh joined Chambers in 2010 as the Senior Clerk. He has been a Barristers Clerk since 1995, starting at Regent Chambers in Stoke-on-Trent and was rapidly promoted to the position of Senior Clerk by the age of then just 21, then from 1997 until he joined Spire Barristers he was the Senior Criminal Clerk at Deans Court Chambers in Manchester.

 

Leigh leads the Clerking Team in chambers and has direct responsibility for the clerk’s room and administration of chambers as a whole, ensuring best practice throughout. His role encompasses business development, practice development, marketing and management. He sits on various committees in chambers, including the management committee.

 

In support of the wider Bar community, Leigh serves on the Management Committee of The Institute of Barristers Clerks of which he is a qualified member and was recently appointed to their Family Law Committee and as the IBC rep for the Pro Bono and Social Responsibility Committee at The Bar Council. In 2021 Leigh, following an application process, was successfully appointed to the Marketing Advisory Group at Advocate (formerly the Bar Pro Bono Unit) where he shares his considerable experience and insights to benefit both Advocate as an organisation, and to their deserving clients needing pro bono assistance from the Bar. In 2021, at the annual Pro Bono Awards, Leigh’s contribution to pro bono activity in the legal community was recognised by receiving the Chambers Professional of the Year Award.

 

He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Legal Practice Management Association and Lawyers for Children.

 

Outside of Chambers Leigh’s interests include live music, bodybuilding, rugby union (RFU Licensed Coach and RFU ELRA Rugby Referee), golf and football.
