About Us

Experienced & Professional Legal Representation

Our barristers now provide specialist Legal Advice and Advocacy services in the core areas of Family and Public Law. We also have individual barristers who have additional specialisms in related areas such as Property, Private Client and Trusts. Our members are regularly instructed to represent clients, not only in Leeds, but also across the whole of Yorkshire, Humberside and nationally. Many practitioners at Spire Barristers are acknowledged by the leading directories as experts in the fields of Family and Public Law.

Now published as a second edition, the leading practitioners text Family Justice Reformed – Developments in the Family Court since the Children & Families Act 2014 was written by Sarah Blackmore and Jacqueline Thomas with contributions from Taryn Lee QC. Foreword from the President and Preface from Sir Ernest Ryder, Senior President of Tribunals.

In his foreword, Sir James Munby, President of the Family Division says:

“Sarah Blackmore and Jacqui Thomas have produced the second edition for which we hoped. There has been much continuing reform since they first wrote this invaluable book, which means they have had to weave in much new material. The history of reform is brought up-to-date and much new case-law is included.

The second edition is a worthy successor to the first. Again, our authors deserve our thanks and our congratulations.

In building upon our already recognised strength and expertise in these areas of practice to enable our continuing development and growth and to support the Junior Bar, in 2017 we recruited a specialist Public Law pupil alongside 3 further specialist Family Law pupils.

Our Approach – Ordinary People. Extraordinary barristers.

Spire Barristers offers a dynamic and forward-thinking approach, which is both specialist and personal to the needs of all our clients and barristers, in an increasingly demanding environment.

What sets Spire Barristers apart is our genuine and caring ethos, together with our staff’s renowned desire to consistently exceed the expectations of our clients and our barristers.

So, why use Spire Barristers? Our existing clients will tell you: it’s because of our “down-to-earth, accessible approach and always achieving the best possible results.”

History

37 Park Square Chambers was founded in Leeds in the 1930’s and established an excellent reputation throughout the North of England and beyond for a responsive and professional approach to the provision of legal services.

Originally, Chambers operated principally as a Criminal set, providing services in the local, West Yorkshire area. Over time, the areas of work undertaken significantly expanded and widened, both geographically and in practice areas, to include Family, Civil and Property teams and served the whole of Yorkshire and Humberside.

At the end of July 2017, 37 Park Square Chambers became Spire Barristers, the Circuit’s and the North’s only specialist Family & Public Law Chambers. This decision was taken in response to and recognition of Chambers’ prominence, having one of the Circuit’s most formidable and dynamic family teams and to enable Chambers to offer to both Professional Clients and Members of Chambers a focused and dedicated service, centred on excellence in the fields of Family and Public Law.
